About the Artist
AnnMarie Henderson is a 26-year-old artist living and working in Anchorage, Alaska. Her primary medium is oil painting, with a focus on Alaska’s landscapes and the innate beauty and vastness of the state. She works from her home studio in Anchorage and practices plein air painting during the warmer summer months.
Originally from Austin, Texas, AnnMarie earned her BFA in Studio Art from The University of Texas at Austin in 2021. During college, she interned for an online art gallery, where she began building her first group of collectors. She also completed a month-long artist residency in a small fishing village on the northern coast of Iceland, home to fewer than 500 people.
AnnMarie became known for her hand-painted postcard series, which she began during her residency in Iceland and continued after moving to Alaska in 2021. The summer after graduation, she moved into a rustic cabin in Fairbanks, where she spent her first full summer painting postcards and establishing herself as a full-time artist.
Alaska quickly captured her heart. She returned in the summer of 2022 with plans to make the state her permanent home. She traveled Alaska by campervan, spent the winter in Fairbanks, and continued building momentum in her art career.
In 2023, AnnMarie moved to Anchorage, where she now lives and works with her husband. She has since held several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. She is an active member of Alaska’s art community and a member of the Plein Air Painters of Alaska. Her work is also carried by galleries and gift shops throughout the state.
Her artwork has been collected in all 50 states and worldwide, and she has collaborated with artists and musicians including Zach Bryan, Noah Kahan, CAAMP, Mt. Joy, Maggie Antone, Flatland Cavalry, and others.
Her work can be found at Stephan Fine Arts, Dos Manos Art Gallery, Lichen Living, Wildbirch Hotel, Ampersand AK, and other galleries and shops across Alaska.
